In 2012, the following grants are open for application (exact numbers to be confirmed):

  • ~5 financial contributions to EU students (in this context nationals or residents (> 1 year) from EU Member States and EEA-EFTA countries).
  • ~1 full scholarship each to students from the three “Windows” (a. Western Balkans and Turkey, b. Tunesia and Egypt, c. "Eastern Neighbourhood Countries" (i.e. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).
  • ~7 full scholarships to third country students (other nationals or residents than above).
  • ~2 scholarships for third country scholars (visiting researchers), starting ~ September 1, 2012, either in Lisbon, Portugal, or Castellón, Spain.

Please notice that applicants may not apply to more than three Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses in the same year and may not have received an Erasmus Mundus grant before.

Erasmus Mundus scholarships for third country students and students from the "Windows":

Scholarships for the three-semesters Erasmus Mundus Masters Course are (numbers to be confirmed):

  • Contribution to travel, installation and all other types of costs, 2 x 4.000 €, 8.000 € in total
  • Monthly allowances of 1.000 € per month, 18.000 € in total
  • Coverage of tution fees of 3.500 € per semester, 10.500 € in total
  • Insurance package, i.e., health insurance.

The scholarship is a full scholarship, meant to cover ALL costs (e.g., tuition fees, travelling, visa costs, accommodation, living expenses, etc.). There will be no further funding.

The study program requires that students provide appropriate laptop computers. Those students granted by the Erasmus Mundus programm who do not possess an appropriate laptop must buy one from the ERASMUS scholarship before starting the study program. If necessary, UJI and ISEGI can facilitate the procurement.

Erasmus Mundus financial contributions for EU students:
Financial contributions for the three-semesters Erasmus Mundus Masters Course are

  • Monthly allowances of 500 € per month, 9.000 € in total
  • Coverage of tution fees of 1.500 € per semester, 4.500 € in total
  • Insurance package, i.e., health insurance.

The study program requires that students provide appropriate laptop computers. Those students granted by the Erasmus Mundus programm who do not possess an appropriate laptop (>= Pentium 4) must buy one from the ERASMUS scholarship before starting the study program. If necessary, UJI and ISEGI can facilitate the procurement.
Erasmus Mundus scholarships for third country scholars:

Scholarships for visiting scholars (4 months) are 14.400 € in total (numbers to be confirmed), distributed in periodic payments. The scholarship is a lump sum, meant to cover ALL costs (e.g., travelling, visa costs, accommodation, living expenses, health insurance, etc.). Visiting scholars apply for one of the universities with the following requirements and tasks:

  • Universidade Nova de Lisbon, ISEGI (beginning/mid September - beginning/mid December 2012, exact dates to be confirmed): Requirement: M.Sc. or PhD in Geoinformatics or similar. Tasks: Teaching, assist with the supervision of Masters projects
  • Universitat Jaume I (beginning/mid September - beginning/mid December 2012, exact dates to be confirmed): Requirement: M.Sc. or PhD in Geoinformatics or similar. Tasks: Teaching, assist with the supervision of Masters projects.

Definitions:

EU student means in this context of an Erasmus Mundus grant

  • a national from the EU Member States and EEA-EFTA States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), or a resident from the EU Member States and EEA-EFTA States, who has carried out his or her main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the EU Member States or EEA-EFTA States (on EC deadline February 28, 2012)
  • who has already obtained a first higher education degree; (only for EU students: applicants having fulfilled 150 credit points of a Bachelor degree will be accepted provisionally, if they provide their (diploma) certificate until July 15, 2012)
  • who has NOT been accepted to register or is registered in an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course already
  • Students holding an Erasmus Mundus scholarship must spend their study period in at least two of the consortium partner countries. These two countries must be different from the country in which the scholarship holder has obtained his/her last university degree.

Third country student or scholar means in this context of an Erasmus Mundus grant

  • a national from OTHER countries than EU Member States or EEA-EFTA States;
  • who has already obtained a first higher education degree;
  • who has NOT carried out his or her main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the EU Member States or EEA-EFTA States (on EC deadline February 28, 2012);
  • and who has NOT been accepted to register or is registered in an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course already.

"Window student" means in this context of an Erasmus Mundus grant

  • a national from
    • Window 1: Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia) and Turkey
    • Window 2: Tunesia and Egypt
    • Window 3: "Eastern Neighbourhood Countries" (i.e. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine)
  • who has already obtained a first higher education degree;
  • who has NOT carried out his or her main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the EU Member States or EEA-EFTA States (on EC deadline February 28, 2012);
  • and who has NOT been accepted to register or is registered in an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course already.

Eligibility:

Erasmus Mundus Masters consortia will ensure that selected students and scholars meet the definition established above. Non-compliance may lead to the cancellation of the scholarship awarded to a student or scholar. However, students may be admitted conditionally to Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses, and selected conditionally for scholarships, on the basis that the scholarship only becomes effective when the students fulfil all the eligibility criteria.

Without prejudice to the respect of high academic standards, in order to ensure a geographical balance across students and scholars, Erasmus Mundus Masters consortia shall respect the following basic criteria:

  • No more than 2 of the selected students should come from the same country.
  • No more than 1 of the selected scholars should come from the same institution.

The basis of all scholarship contracts is the contract between the European Commission and the University of Münster. This contract (FPA-2012-0191) is an integrated part of the grant contracts.
